Robert Hayes for Chichester West Division

Candidate for Chichester West Division

Dear Chichester West resident,

My name is Robert Hayes, I’ve been married over 20 years and have two children. We chose to move to Chichester in 2003 with our young family and quickly fell in love with the Harbour, the City and South Downs, an area of outstanding natural beauty and one in which we wanted to raise our young family, I feel strongly that we have a duty to protect it for future generations to enjoy.

Having worked for West Sussex County Council for over 12 years and having very recently retired, I now have the time to bring something back into the community and the local government, something I feel passionate about.

During my time with the council, I have been proactive in supporting members, my passion is the environment and wildlife and I believe in a positive attitude, this has made me who I am today. In addition to this I am also a strong believer in supporting future young generations and ensuring our elderly residents are respected and their views are taken into account.

Whilst working for West Sussex County Council, Robert has been the lead benefits advisor to the leaders with a focus on People with Disabilities under 25, this has given Robert the experience and knowledge first hand to help improve the lives of people living with disabilities at a county level as well as being a testament to his hard-working nature to have been met with such success.

This was further compounded by Robert chairing the disabled staff group which involved him taking a direct lead in shaping policies and procedures which have had a wide-ranging, lasting impact on his fellow colleagues.

During Robert’s time working at West Sussex County Council, Robert has challenged the then Minister for Disabilities Penny Mordaunt on live radio as well being in consultation with the current Disabilities Minister Justin Tomlinson over how to improve policy nationally.

Robert will be able to bring all of this experience with him into County Council if elected and will continue to champion issues with all the zeal and determination that has allowed him to improve peoples’ lives in the past.

As well as a distinguished career working at County level, Robert was also elected in 2007 to Chichester District Council, representing Southbourne.

During his appointment he chaired the influential Planning Committee for four years which shows the faith placed in him by his fellow councillors to provide leadership where it counts.

Roberts kind-hearted nature has also seen him sit on other key committees at District level such as the Overview and Scrutiny committee, the Development and Infrastructure committee and finally the Employer and Employee committee which places emphasis on strong employee-employer relations in the work place.

Our priorities moving forward

· To be visible and easy to contact and to listen to you the voter and to give you a voice in the County Council.

· To help the community to bounce back from the effects of Lockdown.

· To ensure that your County Council continues to tackle Climate Change.

· To fight over development and ensure  appropriate infrastructure is in place.

· Rural Crime, anti-social behaviour, illegal parking.

· To closely monitor discharges into our beautiful harbour, and challenge water companies to be a responsible partner.

· To deliver services to all ages and to continue making great strides in ensuring our children services are fit for purpose.

· To maintain our local services including bus routes, libraries and safe cycle routes.

To work closely with Parish Councils and Resident Associations to continue to resolve issues
